Thank You 2014!

A big change we experienced in 2014 was opening up our own office space. Having a downtown office allows us to be more accessible to our potential clients and gives us a common meeting place for all our business transactions. We are always up for a visit so feel free to stop in a say hi!

Grain Elevator for sale in Lowe Farm, Manitoba

This grain elevator that has just been listed and is FOR SALE in Lowe Farm, Manitoba, Like many of our agriculture landmarks it has some history behind it.

The community of Lowe Farm, Manitoba has a single grain elevator, a former Manitoba Pool structure. This elevator was built in 1937 by the Lowe Farm Co-Operator Elevator Association Limited. The top of this elevator was damaged on July 20, 1998 by strong winds but was quickly repaired.



There were other Lowe Farm grain elevators:
- Several private elevators, starting in 1898
Farmer’s Elevator Company elevator, built in 1905, sold to Western Canada Flour Mills, sold to Manitoba Pool Elevators in 1940, becoming the second Pool elevator in Lowe Farms, burned August 1953
Canadian Consolidated Grain Company elevator, built in 1904, sold to UGG in 1954, sold to MPE in 1976 and demolished on May 7, 1984.
This the last standing grain elevator in Lowe Farm, Manitoba has been upgraded and maintained over the years, comes with 140,000 bushel storage and is FOR SALE!

A Little history taken from the Carman Dufferin Heritage archives

This was another of the small communities that grew up along the rail line. The land was homesteaded in 1878 by Alex Morrison, and sold to the Canadian National Railway when it built the line that ran west to Somerset.



It may have taken its name from the mixed grove around the Morrison farm home. Morrison also built a lumberyard, boarding house, blacksmith shop and store and had the area near the track surveyed for lots. The store was rented by William ``Billie” Brown who, in 1905, became the first postmaster. Prior to this, mail was picked up at Bates post office, a nearby settlement whose fate was determined by the location of the rail line. Brown built a second store in 1906 and moved the post office to his new location. Two years after Brown sold his store and the post office (1910), the government discovered the sale and moved the post office back to its original location with E.J. Moore as postmaster. This was the beginning of several changes of postmaster and location over the years. These changes were paralleled by the growth and eventual decline of the local stores. This is a tale that has been repeated in the other small communities in Dufferin: “By 1970, the supermarkets, multiple stores and shopping centres had captured the imagination of the shopping public everywhere. Gasoline had not yet become a major issue, and with fast cars and good roads, distance was no longer relevant. When the Homewood School Church and Curling Club were transferred to Carman and the station and beet loader removed, the community life began to disintegrate….”(History of the RM of Dufferin, 1880-1980, p.51).

The stories of the other main pillars of every community, the Homewood schools and churches, are recorded under Churches and Schools. Other social activities that rallied the energies of volunteers were the local Curling Clubs, the Homewood Memorial Recreational Centre and the baseball teams.

One of the main features that still dominates the Homewood skyline is the grain elevator. Located in prime agricultural land, the first grain elevator was built in 1901 by the Dominion grain Company (later owned by Consolidated Grain – 1928; United Grain Growers – 1956). Manitoba Pool elevators opened in 1928 and later expanded into farm supplies. From the 1940s to the 1970s, sugar beets were a major crop in the area and a feature in Homewood during these years was the sugar beet loader that mechanized a formerly heavy loading task for local farmers. Since 1928, the Homewood Co-op has been a main-stay of the community. 




 This the only grain elevator left in Homewood has been renovated and maintained since its original construction. It offers you with 200,000 bushels of grain storage, approximately 12 grain car loading zone and an electronic scale and is FOR SALE.

Tip #1 for maximizing your homes marketability!

You don't notice it – but most buyers will.

Imagine you're viewing a potential new home. You walk in the front door and are instantly impressed. You explore the property room by room and like what you see.

Then there's something you notice that's not quite right. An odour. You realize that it's likely cat dander and, now that you've identified it, you smell it everywhere. Suddenly the home doesn't seem as attractive as it did just moments earlier.

The owner of the property is probably so used to the smell that he doesn't even notice it. Neither does anyone else in the household.

So, when marketing your home for sale, be scent sensitive. Think about the odours that you may have become used to but others are likely to notice. Even odours you think are pleasant, like the strong scent given off by some house plants, may not be pleasing to everyone.

An odour can easily distract a buyer from appreciating the good qualities of your property. Pay particular attention to garbage bins (which can smell even when empty), pets, kitty litter (even when fresh and unused), the kitchen (especially after cooking), perfumes, and closets.

The smell of cigarette smoke is particularly unpleasant to many people. Its odour can linger even on an outside deck or patio.

Bottom line? Don't assume buyers won't notice certain smells. They will.

Simple is better {selling your home}

Your home is for you and your family right?! This is technically true for the time being. But when your house is on the market to sell, potential buyers want to be able to see it as THEIR home.

Simplifying your home for selling can be a great way to get more traffic and interest from potential buyers. This is often something that goes overlooked by many sellers.

Here are some of our helpful tips:


  • Move out or store away any items you are able to live without for a while. Buyers want to be able to look past furniture and decorations and envision themselves in the space. It's easier to do so when there is less in the way. And when it comes time to moving, you'll be glad you started packing early!

  • Declutter closets and cabinets. Buyers look in closets and cabinets, it's no secret. Packing them full of clutter makes them less appealing and hard to get a good look at. Full storage spaces often give the impression that space is limited and there may not be enough space for them. Clear kitchen countertops and clean off your fridge. Cleared surfaces help to make rooms look larger. Take time to clear off unnecessary items from your countertop and remove pictures and magnets from your fridge door.

  • Garages and sheds are often dumping grounds for unused and unsightly items. Now is a great time to go through these places in your home and get ready for moving. This will benefit you, the seller, by getting rid of and organizing areas you normally wouldn't. It also attracts the buyer to these areas of your home... because, who doesn't need storage?! 

  • Curb Appeal is the first thing a potential buyer notices about your home. It gives a clear indicator of what's on the other side of the front door. Clearing bikes, children's toys and lawn accessories allows the buyer to see the home exteriors true potential. If they don't like what they see when driving by it is possible they may just keep in driving.
